Boston Scientific delivered another robust quarter in the second quarter of 2026, driven by sustained demand across its cardiovascular portfolio, continued commercial momentum for recently launched technologies, and broad-based global growth. The medical technology company reported net sales of $5.44 billion, representing 7.5 per cent operational growth year over year, while adjusted earnings per share rose to $0.86, exceeding the company's guidance and reinforcing confidence in its long-term innovation strategy.

The quarter reflected strong execution across Boston Scientific's diversified medical device portfolio, with growth led by its Cardiovascular division, continued expansion of electrophysiology technologies, and increasing adoption of minimally invasive therapies worldwide. The company also continued investing aggressively in research, strategic acquisitions and shareholder returns while advancing multiple clinical programmes expected to strengthen its future pipeline.

"Our team delivered another quarter of strong operational and financial performance while continuing to execute our innovation-driven growth strategy," said Mike Mahoney, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Boston Scientific. He highlighted the company's ability to consistently deliver differentiated technologies that address significant unmet clinical needs while expanding access to advanced medical care across global markets.

Cardiovascular therapies once again served as the primary growth engine during the quarter. The division benefited from continued adoption of electrophysiology technologies, structural heart solutions and interventional cardiology products. Boston Scientific's FARAPULSE™ Pulsed Field Ablation System continued gaining traction among physicians treating atrial fibrillation, supported by expanding clinical evidence demonstrating favourable safety and efficacy outcomes. The company's electrophysiology franchise remains one of its fastest-growing businesses as healthcare providers increasingly adopt pulsed field ablation technologies for cardiac rhythm management.

The MedSurg business also posted healthy growth during the quarter, supported by strong performances across Endoscopy, Urology and Neuromodulation. Increasing procedure volumes, growing adoption of minimally invasive therapies and expanding physician utilisation contributed to sustained momentum across these franchises. Boston Scientific continues to benefit from a balanced portfolio spanning multiple therapeutic areas, enabling the company to maintain resilient performance despite changing healthcare market dynamics.

Geographically, the company recorded growth across all major markets. The United States remained Boston Scientific's largest revenue contributor, while Europe, Asia-Pacific, Latin America and Canada also delivered solid operational growth. Emerging markets continued to represent an important long-term opportunity as healthcare systems increase investment in advanced medical technologies and minimally invasive procedures.

Beyond commercial execution, Boston Scientific continued to strengthen its innovation pipeline through significant strategic investments. During the quarter, the company announced a $2 billion accelerated share repurchase programme, reflecting confidence in its long-term financial outlook. It also completed a $1.5 billion strategic investment in MiRus LLC, further expanding its portfolio in orthopaedic technologies and reinforcing its commitment to targeted acquisitions that complement internal innovation capabilities.

Clinical development remained another key focus throughout the quarter. Boston Scientific reported encouraging data from multiple studies involving the FARAPULSE™ platform presented at EuroPCR, further strengthening the technology's competitive position in electrophysiology. The company also continued advancing the FARAFLEX™ pivotal clinical trial while receiving U.S. Food and Drug Administration clearance for the TruSelect™ 2.6 Microcatheter, expanding its interventional portfolio and providing physicians with additional treatment options. These milestones demonstrate Boston Scientific's continued emphasis on translating clinical research into commercial innovation.

Financially, the company reported GAAP net income of $907 million, while adjusted operating performance remained strong across its businesses. Management attributed the results to disciplined commercial execution, favourable product mix, operational efficiency and sustained customer demand. Despite continued macroeconomic uncertainty, Boston Scientific maintained healthy profitability while increasing investment in research, development and commercial expansion to support future growth.

Looking ahead, Boston Scientific updated its full-year 2026 guidance, projecting operational sales growth of 5.5 per cent to 6.5 per cent while reaffirming confidence in continued earnings expansion. The company expects adjusted earnings per share between $3.28 and $3.32 for the full year, supported by continued product launches, global market expansion and sustained demand across its core businesses. Management also issued third-quarter guidance reflecting continued confidence in business momentum despite an evolving healthcare environment.

Boston Scientific's second-quarter performance underscores the strength of its diversified portfolio and innovation-led strategy. Continued investments in breakthrough cardiovascular technologies, expanding global commercial operations, disciplined capital allocation and a robust clinical pipeline position the company to sustain long-term growth in the increasingly competitive medical technology sector. As healthcare systems worldwide continue to prioritise minimally invasive treatment options and advanced patient care, Boston Scientific appears  well positioned to build on its momentum while delivering value to clinicians, patients and shareholders alike.
