Serves as a trusted counselor to the PF leadership, several R&D leadership members as well as the Scientific Innovation Communications Lead, providing strategic communications counsel
Ensures all communications efforts align with the enterprise R&D narrative and Corporate Comms enterprise-aligned goals.
Defines, develops and delivers internal and external communication plan and strategies, positioning Astellas as a scientific leader through consistent and compelling narratives and media messages that portray the work and mission of the organization, including:
Executes in partnership with R&D Communications leaders and CIR for external communications and media relations work globally in our key therapeutic areas of R&D focus (oncology, gene therapy, blindness and regeneration).
Identifies opportunities for R&D leadership to present, speak and engage with external conferences, publications, boards etc. to strategically increase the profile of Astellas
Ensures pull-through of the corporate strategy with transparency and alignment across the R&D organization
Manages issues/crisis management strategies and execution
Supports science-focused communication content, in alignment with R&D Communications/CIR, across all channels, driving consistency and building a repository of approved communications content for use internally and externally across Astellas
Provides executive and employee communications counsel to the R&D leadership, as appropriate, identifying business/communication objectives and translating them into effective communications strategies globally
Asset Communications: Regulatory and clinical / data milestone press releases from the pre-clinical stage through product approval, and development of content in support of corporate financial disclosure activities related to specific assets
Corporate scientific reputation: Partnering with R&D leadership and coordination with other communications teams to advance business objectives and address stakeholder needs, including: develop scientific reputation plan, strategic communications programming, narrative / messaging development, as well as development of external thought leadership and engagement programming that positions Astellas as a partner of choice within the scientific innovation community (in partnership with Corporate Communications)
Collaborates with global communication partners to identify opportunities to consistently communicate scientific innovation messages strategically both internally and externally across all countries and regions and this includes identifying relevant messages that relate to the business on a broader scale
Manages vendors who provide communications support to senior leaders and their team
Qualifications
BA or BS Degree or Equivalent communications, public relations or related field is required
Requires a minimum of 10+ years of corporate and/or employee communications experience
Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills
Experience working in a global communications role for a complex matrix organization across multiple global regions
Understanding of technical and scientific issues and ability to translate complex information for non-scientific audiences
Proven experience in effectively communicating/counseling with top-level global executives
Proven experience selling in ideas and managing conflict
Media relations experience and excellent communication abilities including presentation, verbal and written skills
Established relationships with industry and business media and stakeholders
Experience managing and/or using a wide array of internal communications tools
