India's healthcare sector is witnessing remarkable growth and transformation, fuelled by technological advancements and rising demand for medical services. According to jobs platform, foundit (formerly known as Monster APAC & ME), the healthcare sector is emerging as a major employer, having generated over 7.5 million jobs and reflecting its critical role in the nation's economy. The healthcare and pharmaceuticals industry has recorded an impressive 62% year-on-year (YoY) growth, along with a 7% increase in hiring over the past three months, underscoring its rapid expansion and evolving workforce dynamics.

“India’s healthcare sector is entering a new era—where technology and talent are driving transformative change,” said V Suresh, CEO, foundit. “Our latest data highlights a sharp rise in demand for roles across AI, digital health, and informatics, reflecting a sector-wide pivot toward innovation and patient-centric care. What stands out is the dual momentum: strong job creation alongside a growing commitment to gender diversity and inclusion. As we observe World Health Day, this evolution is not just a headline—it’s a powerful story of how healthcare is creating meaningful, future-ready careers that matter.”

The healthcare sector boasts high female representation (38% of the workforce), yet leadership roles remain disproportionately male-dominated, with women holding only 4% of these positions.

To address this disparity, healthcare organisations should implement targeted leadership development programs and diversity hiring policies with benchmarks to increase female representation at senior levels. These initiatives can help break down barriers and promote gender equity in leadership and specialised medical fields.
